And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba — Jonathan initiates military action by striking ('nakah) the Philistine garrison (netziv) at Geba (or Gibeah). The Hebrew word 'smote' suggests a decisive blow. and the Philistines heard of it.
