But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not — Saul keeps silent about the revelation of kingship, the 'matter of the kingdom' (davar hammelukhāh). This silence is significant: Saul does not yet publicly claim or discuss his anointing. The kingship remains known only to Samuel and Saul, hidden from the broader community.
