In the same way, you who are younger, be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, 'God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble' — the parallel exhortation to the young to 'be submissive' (hypotassō) to elders establishes a hierarchy of respect, yet the universal call to 'clothe yourselves with humility' (entambasthē tē tapeinophrosynē) overrides hierarchical distinction.
