The *chains of gold* (*sh'lot zahav*) are drawn *across, in front of the inner sanctuary* (*le-pney ha-dvir*), possibly forming a *golden barrier* or *decorative screen* that separates the *holiest space* from the *lesser holy space*. The *profusion of gold* creates an *impression of overwhelming holiness and divine presence*.
