Adoniram (*'Adoniram*), son of Abda, oversaw the *forced labor* (*mas*, the levy/conscription). The *levied laborers* (*'anshey ha-mas*) were the conscripted population who built Solomon's projects (temples, palaces, fortifications). This administrative position was critical and politically sensitive.
