1 CHRONICLES 7:1 — KING JAMES VERSION 0 0
1 Chr 71 Chr 7:2
Now the sons of Issachar were, Tola, and Puah, Jashub, and Shimron, four.
The genealogies of the northern tribes are presented, beginning with Issachar and continuing through Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher. The genealogy of these northern tribes demonstrates the Chronicler's comprehensive approach to genealogical documentation, including tribes that would be carried away in exile and whose territories would be lost to foreign domination. The theological principle evident here is that the Chronicler maintained genealogical memory of all tribes, even those whose political and geographical circumstances had changed dramatically. For the post-exilic community, the genealogical documentation of the northern tribes affirmed their continuity with the pre-exilic Israel and preserved the memory of the complete twelve-tribe structure even though only Judah and Benjamin remained in the land.
